There’s a reason why so many of us fall in love with farmhouse style decor. Its unique take on comfort and simplicity creates a homey feeling in your home that attracts so many. Even if you've never set foot on a farm, it's sure to make you feel at home.

Decorating your home in the farmhouse style will most certainly involve rustic wood elements, as well as metal. And when it comes to farmhouse, the more rustic the better.

1. Wall Color Palette should be neutral

A neutral color palette for your walls is a must when it comes to any modern design, including your farmhouse-inspired space. This will be the key to keeping your space feeling fresh, clean, and, of course, current. With a neutral palette, incorporating bronze or black metals is easy. Take the image above, the white shiplap wall creates the perfect backdrop for that amazing rustic anchor. If the color of the wall was dark, the anchor would simply disappear. This way, it POPS! Immediately noticeable as soon as you walk into the room. And I must say, that anchor works perfectly in a farmhouse styled room as well as a nautical theme! Don't you agree?

2. Well placed metal elements make a big difference even in small spaces

Why not jump on the arrow trend bandwagon with a 3-set arrow wall mount (below). It's the perfect way to fill in a space that seems "lacking", without pulling too much attention from your other decor.

 3. Metal planters hung on the wall are a great decor idea

Add in your kitchen to hold cooking utensils, or just to display some vintage bottles or vases. Perfect for herbs like parsley and basil. Easily accessible for you to pick what you need right in the kitchen.

Metal planters can be used anywhere in your home to add a rustic touch. Add a few to your kids space and make cleaning almost look desirable. (Stop laughing... I did say almost). Certainly a clever storage option! And who doesn't need more storage? Kids or no kids.

4. A rustic arrow hung within a gallery wall creates interest and depth

The perfect size to fill in a blank space on your gallery wall, it also adds dimension to an otherwise flat wall. Consider a few of the arrows below! Handmade and beautifully detailed! The perfect Metal Farmhouse Decor!

5. Yes, in the Bathroom too!

Adding a metal accent on your bathroom wall provides a touch of rustic charm to a space you wouldn't normally consider.

Fun Tip: Creating a farmhouse bathroom can be simple and cost effective. Convert a flea market antique dresser into a farmhouse bathroom vanity. Customize the piece with a countertop that complements well with the other elements in the bathroom. And finish the look off with antique faucet finishes and, of course, metal accents!

5. Choose decor that "hovers" between 2 styles

What does this mean, exactly? Well, for instance, take the skeleton keys below. These are perfectly suited for your farmhouse styled home, but also lean toward the medieval/gothic theme. Decor like this is perfect because all it takes is a few simple decor changes to completely change your room's theme. Switch out some throw pillows and window coverings and you have a whole new space! The same is true of our Wall Anchors. While they are absolutely beachy, nautical themed items... with just a few simple changes they become the perfect Farmhouse Metal decor addition to your space!

6. And don't forget about your Kitchen!

This is actually the space you are most likely going to see the most metal used! There are so many options here!

From metal wall shelves to pot racks, the skies the limit when it comes to the kitchen! There are so many fabulous decor accents to add in here.

To give your new farmhouse kitchen a more spacious and comfortable feel, incorporate open shelving into the plans. (Both rustic wood and metal work here but since this blog is about metal decor accents, I'll lean toward metal here.)

The perfect place to display your other farmhouse decor, add some plants, maybe some herbs for easy access for your everyday cooking... or even frequently used mugs. Also works great to complete your coffee bar!

OK, so we know this isn't the obvious choice for farmhouse kitchen decor... but it's super cute! And useful too! Just slide a roll of paper towels over the giraffe's head and it's the perfect countertop decor!

7. Mix Metal with wood elements for the perfect touch

I'm sure you know by now that farmhouse style is meant to offer a relaxed and cozy, and somewhat vintage feel. And what accomplishes that better than rustic wood and metal decor? The wood accents create warmth in your space while metal accents and finishes add a hint of industrial flair to complete the look!

One of the most obvious farmhouse trends is wood flooring or even adding wood beams on your ceiling. This definitely adds a rustic flair to your space. Yes, hard wood beams can be costly and difficult to install. So consider adding faux wood beams instead! They look like the real thing but are much more cost effective and lightweight, making installation a breeze!

Neither living room (above) is entirely farmhouse styled, but each has a dramatic wood effect on the ceiling which adds just a rustic farmhouse style that truly makes a statement. Don't you agree?

8. Flea market finds are a must!

And that's not only from a cost perspective! (although that is an added bonus, for sure!) Flea markets are the ideal place to find old, vintage furniture, old metal signs, lamps.. and more! After all, rough wood and peeling paint can do wonders in creating a farmhouse look. That's not to say things should be completely dilapidated, but you definitely don't want things to look too shiny and new. This is why your flea market farmhouse finds and rustic metal decor is the ultimate score!

9. Mixing metals is A-OK!

Mixing metals adds both a clean and elegant style to any room. Different metals  add depth to your space, guiding the eye from the more dominant color's features to the accent colors. This concept can appear daunting at first, since you have the metal color as well as the finish to consider. The key here is to pick one metal hue to dominate your color palette, and another to complement it. For example, if you are decorating your kitchen and your appliances are stainless steel, add brass handles for a pop of warm color. Or, if, for instance, you want a silver and gold bedroom, pay attention to the rest of your room’s color palette. If your room makes use of warm colors like red, yellow, or orange, then you would want gold to be your main metal with silver used as an accent metal. This is made much simpler if you have followed tip #1 - if your room has a neutral color palette you can mix different metals much more liberally.

10. And last, but by no means least... a metal farmhouse tray is the perfect centerpiece for your table!

Use up-cycled baskets, antique metal basins, and even cake trays. Again,  hit your local flea market! I'm sure you can hunt down many suitable options there! Decorating it is easy! Add in some candle holders, napkin stands, mason jar vases, condiments... you name it!

With these Metal Farmhouse Decor tips, you will be well on your way to making your Farmhouse dreams come true!

I like how you mentioned adding a rustic arrow to add dimension to flat walls. We just moved to a new home and I want to add some metal decor to my brick walls we have. I’ll be sure to look for other metal decor items that can add some flavor to our house. https://americanmademetalsco.com/collections
