10 Mirror Design Ideas to Enhance the Beauty of your Home

10 mirror ideas to enhance the beauty of your home

Mirrors are a great decor piece for a number of reasons. They reflect light, they open up spaces to create the illusion of more space, and make rooms look better in general. Consider size, shape and frame color to make the best decision when it comes to decorating with mirrors. Here are a few tips on how to decorate with mirrors to create the most of your space!

1. Placement Matters

Aside from hanging it across from something visually appealing, like an accent piece of furniture, or a favorite painting, a mirror should always be hung at the appropriate height for the space. Artwork, for example, should always be hung at eye level. But the level in which you hang your mirror will depend on what you want to be reflected. Eye-level works well in many cases, but higher or lower can also work depending on the situation. For instance, if you have a tall curio cabinet on the opposing side, you may want to hang your mirror higher. This is also true when hanging a mirror above a piece of furniture. Depending on the height of the furniture and the other decor elements on that furniture, your mirror should be hung at a height that accents it all well. At 30 inches round, this Gold Trimmed Round Mirror is the perfect size!

2. Use 2 or More to Fill a Large Space

Mirrors are similar to artwork. You don't necessarily have to hang just 1. If you have a large blank wall, considering hanging 2 or more to properly fill in the space. Hanging one mirror on a large wall will leave you feeling like something is missing.... because... well, something IS missing! Design! You can choose multiple different shapes and sizes, or remain consistent with 2 or more of the same mirror.  The choice is yours! And neither is wrong, it just depends on your style!

3. Don't forget about Style!

You don't need to go all crazy with a style that doesn't fit your taste. But if your other decor is a bit more simple, or you're a true eclectic, choose a mirror with style to accent your space! Sunburst mirrors, mirrors with flower shaped frames, and even old antique finds are good here. (Like this Geometric Black Mirror.) Just don't overdo it, otherwise you will end up with a finished look that's too cluttered or, simply, just doesn't compliment your space well.

4. Create a Focal Point

Mirrors make great focal points! You will often find them hung above mantels, dining room buffets, beds, etc. Adorn with sconces on either side and, viola.. you have the perfect focal point for any space. Just be sure to choose the right size and shape to perfectly accent your wall.

5. Create a Gallery Wall with Mirrors for all Shapes and Sizes

If you want to go even bigger, a wall covered entirely in mirrors creates a great gallery wall that is sure to draw attention! Or, add in a few with your family pictures and favorite artwork. Mirrors help to create dimension on your gallery wall so everything isn't so uniform. But be sure to choose colors that compliment the rest of your decor. Gold framed mirrors are always a hit! They go with almost any decor color theme and style! Check out these 20" Round Gold Mirrors! Elegant, simple, stylish.. the perfect touch!

6. Bathroom Mirrors don't have to be Boring!

Again, depending on the free wall space in your bathroom, you may choose to add more than just 1! Use your judgement. Rule of thumb - if you have double sinks, add double mirrors! Two of these 24" old Round Mirrors would be perfect! Try also 20" or even 30" Depending on your space.

7. Accent your stairs with Mirrors!

Pictures and artwork work well here, why not add a mirror or 2! A well placed mirror at the bottom of your stairs or landing is a great way to make the space look bigger. Plus, you can see your beautiful face as you pass by! It's a win-win! This 30" Gold Trimmed Round Mirror is a perfect choice!

8. You don't have to Hang them!

Contrary to popular belief, wall mirrors don't necessarily have to be hung on your wall. The right mirror can be placed on the floor, a table, dresser, or console table and leaned against a wall. Just be sure it is sturdy enough before attempting this look, you definitely don't want a broken mirror on your hands!

9. Be Mindful of Lighting

The dining room is one of the most popular spaces for dramatic mirrors, especially if you have  a beautiful chandelier to reflect. But, be careful! If your chandelier has exposed light bulbs you might end up with a glaring reflection. In this case, an antique mirror might diffuse the light and sold your problem. Otherwise, adding a rectangular, or even round one, to your dining space is the perfect touch.

10. Size Matters

We talked about how to handle a large, empty wall... but what do you do when you don't have a lot of space but need the function of a mirror, like the bathroom? Over the sink is, of course, the most popular place. Shaving and applying makeup are much easier with a good-sized mirror so it's important to fill up as much free space as possible with the right mirror without overdoing it. An added bonus is the illusion of more space. Hint - Rectangular mirrors are best here so as not to waste much needed space. Like this 22 x 30 Gold Trimmed Mirror.

My wife and I recently renovated our bathroom, and now we want to add some mirrors. I like what you suggested about adding extra mirrors if you have double sinks! I like the article on mirror design ideas and am hoping that I can soon hire a reputable company for my home. https://justglasstopsandmirror.com/clearwater-fl

I liked that you suggested choosing a color of the mirror that will compliment the rest of your decor. This is something that I will consider because I want to shop for wall mirrors that can give some dimensions to our living room. For sure, I will find silver mirrors as they will meet my design preference. https://www.vertillaswagon.com/silver-royal-crown-wall-mirror.html
